Cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, est\u00e1 entre cientos de miles de familias que han perdido a seres queridos en momentos en que Estados Unidos sufre la peor crisis de sobredosis de su historia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unas 150 personas de familias que han perdido a seres queridos por ingesti\u00f3n de fentanilo acudieron el martes a la sede de la agencia antidrogas, DEA. Thomas se alegr\u00f3 de que un hombre fue convicto de vender la p\u00edldora que mat\u00f3 a su hija Ashley Romero tras una investigaci\u00f3n de la DEA, pero insiste en que el gobierno puede hacer mucho m\u00e1s, especialmente en cuanto a la educaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cCuando pierdes a un hijo, es algo antinatural. Hay un dolor permanente, que nunca se va\u201d, expresa Thomas. \u201cNo vamos a poder mantener fuera a esas drogas, est\u00e1n ya inundando al pa\u00eds. Lo que necesitamos es educaci\u00f3n en las escuelas&#8230; la prevenci\u00f3n ser\u00e1 nuestro punto fuerte\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>En un discurso ante la Cumbre de Familias sobre el Fentanilo, el secretario de Justicia, Merrick Garland, declar\u00f3 que el Departamento de Justicia facilitar\u00e1 unos 345 millones de d\u00f3lares el a\u00f1o entrante, incluyendo fondos para monitorear j\u00f3venes de alto riesgo y para dar acceso al ant\u00eddoto contra sobredosis naloxona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>\u201cSabemos que el fentanilo es un veneno casi invisible, y que muchos que lo toman ni siquiera saben que lo est\u00e1n tomando\u201d, dijo Garland. \u201cSabemos que nadie \u2014ninguna persona, ninguna familia\u2014 puede derrotar esta epidemia solo. Nos necesitamos los unos a los otros\u201d.<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n destac\u00f3 la gran cantidad de casos penales presentados por el Departamento de Justicia y que est\u00e1n avanzando en tribunales desde Missouri a Rhode Island a la ciudad de Nueva York, donde el lunes una tercera persona fue acusada por la muerte de un ni\u00f1ito de 1 a\u00f1o que al parecer estuvo expuesto al fentanilo en un centro de cuidado infantil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El Departamento de Justicia ha presentado cargos contra 23 presuntos miembros del c\u00e1rtel mexicano de Sinaloa y hace pocos d\u00edas logr\u00f3 la extradici\u00f3n a Estados Unidos de Ovidio Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez, hijo de Joaqu\u00edn \u201cEl Chapo\u201d Guzm\u00e1n, l\u00edder del c\u00e1rtel de Sinaloa. Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez se ha declarado inocente de los cargos de tr\u00e1fico de drogas y lavado de dinero, y en una carta con sus hermanos se quej\u00f3 de que los convirtieron \u201cen chivos expiatorios\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La DEA, entretanto, se ha concentrado en los c\u00e1rteles de Sinaloa y Jalisco al considerar que son los mayores responsables de la introducci\u00f3n de fentanilo en Estados Unidos, declar\u00f3 la administradora de esa agencia, Anne Milgram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEl fentanilo lo cambi\u00f3 todo\u201d, expres\u00f3 Milgram. \u201cNos enfrentamos a una amenaza que est\u00e1 en constante crecimiento. Nunca ha sido tan mort\u00edfera y peligrosa\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El fentanilo es un opioide sint\u00e9tico que es exponencialmente m\u00e1s adictivo que la hero\u00edna, y es actualmente la principal causa de muerte entre estadounidenses de entre 18 y 49 a\u00f1os. Apenas 2 miligramos de la droga pueden ser fatales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuesta menos de un centavo de d\u00f3lar comprar los ingredientes necesarios para elaborar una dosis letal de fentanilo, por lo cual su accesibilidad es \u201cvirtualmente ilimitada\u201d, expres\u00f3 Milgram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La droga con frecuencia es mezclada con medicamentos legales o comprimida en p\u00edldoras m\u00e9dicas falsificadas, como la oxicodona. Algunas personas ingieren fentanilo sin saberlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e1s de 100.000 personas han muerto por sobredosis de drogas en Estados Unidos desde 2020, de las cuales unas dos terceras partes son por fentanilo.
